It is such a good experience to live abroad, because you really get to know the people of the country and their lifestyle. This experience is different from the one I did in Cyprus, because no it is the second time abroad and Cyprus and Malta have a lot of similarities so it is not as new for me now.
I live in Lija and during my working week my days are mostly the same. I get up at 6.15, take the bus around 7 ‘o clock, I arrive at work on 8 or 8.15 and work till 5 ‘o clock. Then I take the bus back to Valletta at 17.10, take another bus in Valletta to Lija and I will arrive at home at 18.15 or 18.30. Then I take some time to relax, because I really need that after the bus ride. This is because the roads are bad and they drive mostly really fast, so it quite a shaky ride. When it something like 19.30 or 20.00 I will make something to eat. Sometimes I make something for myself or Stefan and me eat together and sometimes the Italian students have cooked something and they tell us to eat with them. Mostly I eat something easy, like fish fingers or a vegetable burger with baked potatoes and some vegetables. I think it is a good meal and also a bit healthy. After and during dinner we mostly talk about our day or what we want to do in the weekend. After that I usually check some things on the internet and then I will go to sleep. Mostly the time goes by so fast that after dinner and talking I will go to bed.
Now after three weeks I am more used to the way of living in Malta. It is a lot more chaotic then what I am used to, so the at times I was really stressed. Especially when I needed to go with the bus, because they do not have a real schedule, they do not stop when you want to get in or they will not stop when you go out, so then you need to jump off and hope you will be fine. Now I know what I can expect, so I am more relaxed now.
The difference compared to the life I live in the Netherlands is that now I work and live on my own for the whole week. Back home I go to school and my parents are at home for half of the week. I feel more independent, because I need to take care of myself, do my own shopping and cleaning. I feel more grown up then when I am at home.

Good to read that this experience contributes to your growth.
Do you feel you live like a Maltese person, or more as a Dutch one?

    Amy Verbeek:
