This week I finished the task of the print brokers I needed to search in the Netherlands and Belgium. It was a big task and I needed to do research on different websites to get all the companies. Then I needed to select the ones that were the biggest. I did this by looking up information about the number of employees that are working in the company, the turnover they make in a year and the clients they have. They call this their portfolio. The number one criteria was the website of the company. This could give me a first impression. If they have a website that looks like I could make it myself, I did not even check the other things. When they have a professional website I did. This shows how important it is for a company to have a good website and also to have important information about the company on it. Sometimes I found websites that had one or two lines with even subject. This does not make a good impression. For example when you read about what the company does and you see just two lines or when subjects are listed and you cannot click on most of them, it gives the impression that they did not spend time on their website.
My next task this week was to fill in excel sheets with the prices for the open university. They are a big client of the company. The sheets consists of the information about the print job, the number of copies and the amount of pages. The information I put in the calculation sheet. This will give me the amount of money they need to pay. For example I put in the sheet that they want
- black text: this is 1/1, because the sheet is printed on the front and back with black, so one colour.
- a full colour cover with gloss varnish and black print on the inside: this is 5/1, because the front is printed with all the colours. That is 4 plus the varnish is 5. The varnish will give the cover the gloss layer that reflects the light. The black is the 1, this is printed on the back of the paper.
- saddle stitched binding: there are different types of binding. Which one is use depends on how many pages the book is. Saddle stitching is done with a staple to put the book together. That is why you can imagine that this is only done on small books.
When I have put these information in the sheet I can change the amount of copies and the pages, because they want an overview of all the costs of a certain job. This means from 1000 copies till 9000 copies and from 16 pages till 64 pages. In this way they can calculate the costs for every job and calculate the total amount they need to spend.
