Weekly report: week 7 of the internship

So this week was the week of the stock taking. Last week I have written that we had prepared for this by wrapping cutlery and reorganising the storage room.
On Monday when I came in we had a few minutes that we relaxed and then Margarita and I started to work. We started with ASA. This a German company that has a large selection of tableware. They have all kinds of things you need in the kitchen and also some home decoration products, like vases. So we needed to print out the list of all the ASA products we have in the store. Then we went in the store and Margarita told me the code, so I could find it on the papers. And after that she told me how many products we had, so I could note it down. We split up in teams to be faster. In the end when you put all the lists of ASA together you will have the total ASA products in the whole store. But we also have some ASA products on the tables for decoration and in the 60%-room, if they are a bit damaged. So we thought we were finished and then another product of ASA got our attention.
The next day we did Pintinox. We started with the cutlery, they have a lot and all different kinds. For example they have Gamma which is more rectangular and you have Stresa and Pitagora which are more round. If you see Stresa and Pitagora they look the same but if you hold them you will feel that Pitagora is heavier. In this way all the cutlery has their own special thing. It was very good for me to have done the preparation and the stock taking of the cutlery, because I have learned a lot from it. First I did not know what was what and some cutlery I did not even know it exist. But now I know where most of the cutlery is used for and how it is called. With the names I have some trouble sometimes, because we have a lot of them and some look alike. After the cutlery Vicky and I did the Pintinox cooking utensils. But the rack has Pintinox but also Sunnex and some other brands. So every time we needed check if there were some Pintinox products in the row of the other products.
We also checked a lot of the boxes in the storage rooms. This was done faster, because you can see on the box how many products are in there. But sometimes we needed to check the boxes also to see if they are full or not.
My conclusion of this week is that I have learned a lot on how stock taking is done. Sometimes it was a bit of a mess, because we could not find a product and we needed to check it by barcode. This was because the computer did not work, so we could not scan the barcode to know the product code. The next week we will do some other companies again, because first the lists of this week need to be put into the computer.
